Question cooling m.2 controller

I heard cooling for ssds is not a good idea because NAND memories work better when warm... BUT cooling controller is not bad idea right? can i put small heatsink on my m.2 ssd controller? is it safe? can i use thermal paste or i should go for thermal pad?

Where did you hear that? Obviously not true. No electronics like excessive heat.
