Hello all,

I built a gaming computer (general details in my signature) this past September, and I have the nagging feeling that my Cooler Master V8 GTS just isn't cutting it in terms of cooling. I know what you're thinking. In my defense, I was still somewhat new to computers and the V8 GTS was the only cooler I could find with the proper TDP capacity and it looked just plain cool.

Back to the main topic here. Obviously, the FX-9590 is an absolute hothouse of a CPU (I bought the V8 and the 9590 at the same time. I know what I did.) With that being said, I have been searching for an alternative cooling unit / method.

Here are the candidates:

1. Noctua NH-D15

2. Cooler Master Nepton 280L

3. Corsair Hydro Series H110

4. NZXT Kraken x61

My rig is housed in an NZXT Phantom full tower case, and I'm starting to think I might need to transplant my rig's innards into a different case. Any input on that line of thinking is welcome. Seriously people, I'm just spit-balling here, open to all kinds of answers. Thanks to all who weigh in on my situation.

Best regards,

I suggest you get NZXT Kraken x61 because it's a good closed loop cooler that is made by same company as your case, the other options will give you similar performance...
I have the CM Nepton 280L, and it keeps my CPU below 60C under 4k ultra gaming load. 40C if I open my window :) But overall, I love the cooler and I have never had a single problem with it at all. I have an Intel CPU right noe though, so it might be different for you, I did have the Nepton on a FX 8320 before, it was keeping it at the same temperature, it might be a bit higher for you since that CPU uses so much power and heat.

Thanks for the list. The only problem with my V8 is that it takes up too much room (heightwise), so I have less than 1/4" left for either a 200 or 230mm intake fan to be placed in the space the Phantom provides.

I think I'm going to go with mr91 on this and get the Kraken X61, assuming it fits my case dimensions. this will allow me the space to put that 200mm fan in and achieve the intake I've needed from the beginning.

Thanks again.

While I appreciate the concern, I refuse to fully believe NZXT's list of case compatibility. I'm pretty sure that my case has the space (rhyming not intended).

Thanks again for the concern and suggestion.
