Cooling update

Hi folks,

I purchased the Swiftech MC370-0A CPU fan along with the Artic Silver and 2 different fans then the Antec ones I have. Their are problems of course. The heatsink clips do not get a secure connection. The heatsink is much bigger then the Athalon chip so I am not sure if I am doing something wrong. So I am using the new fans along with the old heatsink..Temp still the same for the cpu , high 50's with side off while the MB is always under 30.. =(

Any ideas

Okay, my first question - do you have the heatsink and the springs round the right way?

Their is a raised shoulder on the socket that corresponds to the indent on the heatsink. Okay so far?

There are two springs for the clamps. 1 spring is shorter than the other. I HOPE you have the shorter spring at the end with the indent/shoulder and the longer spring at the other...?

What fans are you using and what cpu? This combo of 370 and delta fan would keep my 1.6 Ghz Athlon at 1.85V at around 50 degrees. Stock voltage and freq. would be low 40s.

I happened to be the one who suggested the cooler and two fans to him. This is the <A HREF="http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=633576#633576" target="_new">link of his first post on this subject</A>.

Now, in reply to Andrew, here are some links that should be helpful. I should say that they are all you need to know for installing this cooler and the Arctic Silver:
<A HREF="http://www.swiftnets.com/mc370.htm" target="_new">Swiftech MC370-0A</A>
<A HREF="http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm" target="_new">Arctic Silver II</A>

Plus, if you're worried about temps (like I sorta am), I don't know if I mentioned this, but the CPU temps are off for the A7V133 (details too long). Peteb would agree with me. I bought a thermistor (as well as Peteb) so we know what the true CPU temp is. Then, just use the offest to calibrate Motherboard Monitor.

But, as for this heatsink, you don't have to worry about cracking the core. Just put the clips onto the correct I don't know what you call 'em, and you'll be good to go.

(I hope that'll be enough to get you past the installation jitters... )

I have tried attaching the heatsink both of the two ways it will fit on the chip. It only can go two ways because the clips that it attaches to are only on two of the four sides. Attaching it to both sides yields the same results. If I tilt the machine on it's side the heatsink starts to fall off. COuld be a problem with the springs.

that is definitely not correct - are you following this <A HREF="http://www.swiftnets.com/MC370_install.htm" target="_new">http://www.swiftnets.com/MC370_install.htm</A>?

Im not familiar with that particular Heatsink, but one thing, IF THE HEATSING IS IN THE SLIGHTEST BIT LOOSE- DO NOT,NOT,NOT POWER ON.The 4 corner supports on the chip need SQUASHING or the heatsink wont make proper contact with the core resulting in you having to go shopping for a new athlon....., if the heatsink is loose, its not on correctly.
