[SOLVED] copy dvd with truly free software

friend paid a service to do vhs to dvd but didnt wanna pay the crazy price to burn extra copies. ive personally tried at least 4 'free' programs from google searches to copy these dvds but they all appear to be trials or converters. is there any truly free program to copy a simple dvd of home movies?
