Copy games from external hard to external hardrive

I downloaded the sims from the internet (legally - paid for etc!) I downloaded it straight to my external hard drive but now i have a new one as the cable to my old one is loose and keeps disconnecting, it wont work on my new one and im not sure why? i just dragged the game over so is there something else i need to do?

when you plug in that new drive does it show the same drive letter as your old one?

This is possibly due to hidden files and registry entries written from the installer, The Sims 3 is the worst for this kind of stuff. If have the installer, I'd uninstall whatever you have left of the game (I guarantee there is some in the registries atleast) and reinstall it to the new drive.
