cordless keyboard and mouse x2 problem

Dear Readers,

Bought 2 x HP Pavillion PC's, both came with HP wireless (27MHz) keyboard
and mouse. In the retailers shop where I bought them there are six (6) of
these things side by side, all working, no interaction evident. I've been
back and checked and I wasn't imagining it.

The two I have though are a different story. I can type on either keyboard
and waggle either mouse and everything appears on both PC's.

I went through the obvious stuff of disconnecting the wireless (USB)
receivers from the PC's and removing the batteries from the kbds and mice,
then re-connecting everything after a few minutes with all the required
pushing of "connect" buttons, no change.

Tried HP telephone support, "thats just the way they are, move them futher
apart", "ours have very good range".

Tried HP e-mail support:

"Uninstall the drivers, power the machine off, then back on and let us know
if that fixes it"

I did as I was told, several times on both machines, no change (no surprise
either!).

I would just replace one kbd & mouse with a diferrent brandof wireless
keyboard and mouse such as Logitech, except:

1) I've seen 6 of these working happily side by side
2) The HP keybooards have some nice extra features on them
3) I PAID GOOD MONEY FOR THESE and HP are supposed to be a reputable brand!

Anybody out there know what the solution is?

I could try asking the guys at the retailers, but as they sell everything
from toasters and vacuum cleaners through to fridges and freezers I don't
get the feeling they have a lot of technical expertise in house. Of course I
could be wrong!

Any suggestions gratefully received.

Hi Andy... Well 27MHZ is a strange frequency for wireless keyboards and
mice. Since this is the CB band. Although 6 channels in between the CB
frequencies are used for mostly RC electric aircraft.

Do they list the exact frequency or channel number listed on them? My
guess they are on the same frequency (channel). I'd return one of them
that has a different channel than the other one. That's the only
acceptable choice I believe you have.

Hi,

I have the same kind of mouse and wireless keyboard, came with HP
Pavilion zd7000. These things have 256id's (or channels). If wireless
devices are being used within 2m of each other, you will have to have
seperate channels for each reciever.

Now here's what you have to do to change channels on them.

Both the mouse and the keyboard should have a small connect button
under them, on the mouse you will most likely have to use a pen to
press it.

1. Press the connect button on the wireless device once (mouse,
keyboard)
2. Press the connect button on the reciever once. The status light
will flash.
3. Press and hold the connect button on the wireless device (mouse,
keyboard) for 3 seconds, then release.

This should move the devices to the next id.

You can also use this method to get rid of other types of
interference.

I personally would like to see some kind of software with these
devices, it is annoying not to be able to see what id each device is
using, and also not to be informed when battery levels get low
e.t.c.

Another thing you might find annoying is that the mouse pointer moves
very slowly, even though it is set at max speed in control panel, i
solved this by editing the registry, and manually setting mouse speed
and threshold values. You can find these here;
