I was looking at this Asus Zenbook with the new Broadwell crazy low power CPU in it (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00SGS7ZH4/ref=nosim/dealiggcom-20#customerReviews) and the price of just $700 for what is essentially the newest generation Intel CPU and a Macbook Air like thin ultrabook is looking tempting. But, then I look up the CPU specs (http://ark.intel.com/products/83610/Intel-Core-M-5Y10-Processor-4M-Cache-up-to-2_00-GHz) and notice that the CPU is running at a whopping 800 MHz and boosts to only 2 GHz. My current laptop, an Ivy Bridge 3210m boosts to 3.1 GHz. Will the low clock speed hold it back in games like Payday 2 and Borderlands 2/PS that run quite well in 1366x768 on my current laptop? I'm sure the difference between a HD 4000 and the HD 5300 is probably significant, but I'm afraid that the CPU, specifically the crazy low clock speed will bottleneck it?

Also, I know this wasn't designed to run Borderlands, I am just curious if the clock speed will affect games. Probably not going to buy it anyway.

Solution
The CPU will bottleneck you, but more to the point the embedded GPU will not pack enough power to run many games. It certainly will not run Payday 2 at a playable frame rate.

For $700, you can put together a fairly nice budget rig along these lines. http://pcpartpicker.com/user/achufnagel/saved/gwxWGX

If you need a gaming pc for that budget, you need to go desktop, or maybe refurbished laptop. If you want a tiny laptop and are just asking if it will run games, then no, that laptop will not play games.

Why not just keep your old laptop (which isn't terribly old), and get this:
