core 2 duo e4500 to e8400 upgrade

Hello, I have a problem upgrading my cpu on LGA 775 socket. My Pc is old HP dx7400 Microtower with MS-7352 motherboard. I have upgraded my bios to version 1.14 and replaced my core 2 duo E4500 with E8400. The Pc will load bios and recognize the upgraded cpu, but after trying to boot to windows, it restarts. I have also tried resetting cmos, but it didnt work. Can someone help? Ty!

Maybe the motherboard or the hard drive is faulty,you can always clone an hard drive to another computer. But you should change your motherboard.

All works fine with the old e4500.

try restart in safe mode.

Since you can boot to bios, you can try manually adjusting the settings there. The e4500 uses an 800mhz fsb, the e8400 uses a 1333 fsb. You may need to manually set the system ram to the proper speed as well.

Here's a description of what happens after I power up the pc with the e8400. The fan accelerates continuously and won't stop(goes totally crazy) so I have to restart the pc after some time as I'm afraid of destroying the fan. The PC loads bios - all fine, but after it tries to boot Windows 10(have already tried win 7 and xp - the same), it restarts. Sending some bios pics.

Your mobo is limited to 2,66 GHz. See Hp specifications. E8400 is a 3,0 GHz.

You can see at bios "system information" (first picture you have sent) that the "processor speed is 2,66 ghz" when E8400 is a 3,0 GHz processor. I think your mobo can't use this processor and it becames crazy.

Oh, sure. Thank you! This brings another question though. Is there a way for me to underclock this cpu?
