Core 2 Duo e7400 64 bits?

Hello guys! I have a Core 2 Duo E7400, Msi g31m3v2, 4gb ddr2 Kingston ram, 2 hdds.

The methods listed on various pages tend to say that my computer is NOT 64bit capable. But the intel official page for my processor says it IS. So my question is which source should I trust? Can the other components of my build make my processor not compatible?

your cpu is 64 bit capable, what operating system you are running is the real question.

Right now Im sure Im running 32 bit! So the only thing that matters for 64bit capability is the CPU?

If you have a processor that is 64-bit and an operating system that is 32-bit, you would not be able to run specifically 64-bit programs. (Most programs are designed both ways)

Yes I know! What I wanted to know is if Im able to install a 64 bit OS with my kinda old build!

Yes, of course you can. Everything that came after the AMD Athlon-64 is 64-bit, including some Pentium-4's. All Core2 CPUs are 64-bit.

Thank you everyone!! My biggest question was if CPU is the only thing that matters besides motherboard, ram, etc. to install a 64 bit OS
