Core 2 Duo for Pentium 4

I have a 1.86Ghz Core 2 Duo with a 1066Mhz FSB that I'd like to swap for my 3.2Ghz P4. My motherboard is the same socket, but a friend has suggested concern that the 800Mhz FSB of the motherboard may reduce the speed of the processor. Is this true? If so, would it still be better to swap for the Core 2 Duo, it is after all dual-core, uses less power, and runs cooler.

Depends on the board you have. If the motherboard BIOS can't handle that CPU then it won't even boot. Some early LGA 775 boards that accept Core 2s will run at a slightly lower FSB (like 1040 instead of 1066), especially the cheap VIA boards. Research your motherboard manufacturer's CPU support page to see if it will even accept that CPU in the first place.

it is also possible that your motherboard has a BIOS update that will allow for adding higher FSB CPU's... what's the motherboard you have? (model number and brand would be nice)

The minimum chipset for the E630 ia the 945 chipset. You can go to the Intel Website and check for yourself.
