Hi,

I am planning to buy Apple Macbook Air 2015 which has processor core i5-5250U 5th generation with base frequency 1.6 GHZ and max upto 2.7 GHz. I mainly use my laptop which is Inspiron 1525 with process core 2 duo T5850 with base frequency 2.16GHZ for programming purpose. I would like to know if the Apple Macbook Air will be faster than my old laptop for programming in matlab and other softwares.

Furthermore I am also confused with Apple Macbook Pro 2012 which is in the same price range of Macbook Air 2015 but has processor with higher base frequency (core i5 3rd generation 3210M base frequency 2.5 GHz and upto 3.1GHz). Will it be faster than Macbook Air in programming. ? Please help me.

The T5850 is the slowest. The other two are neck and neck performance wise but the i5-5250U supports newer instruction sets like AVX2 and only has a 15 watt TDP while the i5-3210M is a 35 Watt Cpu. So the I5-5250U is more future proof for programming and testing I would think.

Thanks for the reply.

So can I say that the Apple Macbook Air 2015 will have same performance of Apple Macbook Pro 2012 in heavy programming.
