Core 2 Duo randomly shutting down

So I'm looking at a perplexing issue, i have three systems 1,2,3 (All Core 2 Duos ~5-10 years old).

System 1 had this peculiar problem of randomly shutting down 10-15 minutes after boot. I figured it might be the CPU overheating so i replaced the thermal grease, it now runs better but freezes in 1-3 hours or when stressed. The temps i read after the thermal grease put it in idle around 55C and it could go upto around 60C before freezing. I tried to replace the heatsink with the heatsink of system 2, at which point the idle temp actually became 85C and it was easily crossing 100C without freezing! But also seemed to be throttled like hell.

I used HWMonitor to check temps, and another guy recommended that it may be that some IC on the motherboard is overheating, but only way to check that is to buy a new motherboard and there's still no confirmation that it'd fix it. What should i do?

On top of that, today System 3 started to overheat as well! I'm worried that it may be a pattern and systems might be getting damaged due to some power issue. How do i check that?
