Ok so in my second system i currently have a core2duo e8400 and i just ordered a core 2 quad q9400 yesterday from ebay . So my question is how much performance boost can i expect from core 2 duo to core 2 quad if any for that matter? As i never owned a core 2 quad before i dont know exactly the capabilities of it.

um looks like core 2 duo performs better in single core performance so which applications use single core as i think core 2 duo will perform better in them

I'm willing to wager the 7% comes down to the clockspeed difference and nothing more
having 4 cores in the same space intel had to increase the voltage (65W vs 95W) and reduce the speed of each core to keep heat under control.

hmm i see but i have done a little research and most of them say that having a quad is overall better as having a 2 core cpu. I mean in that system i installed a gt 1030 with core 2 duo the esports title ran fine tbh they ran fine with gt 610 also not much of an issue . But when i installed gta V on that pc it severely stuttered . So i thought ok maybe the gpu is holding the cpu back . But when i upgraded to gt 1030 not much of a difference . So dont you think that upgrading to a quad will give that system an edge in newer titles like prey and gta v?

you would need a newer CPU for that. they are both 10 years old now and things have changed.
look here your dual core against the pentium g3258 dual core.

and that is a difference of 7 years
this is this generations dual core now with hyperthreading

I'm afraid your throwing good money away on such an old platform
my system is similar to yours, 955 black and hd 7950, both old AF but I forgot trying to replace just the CPU long ago, when for the same price I can upgrade to a g4560 or g4600

Well i got a deal for 10$ on ebay for that quad and it was too good to pass on and as i said before this is my 2nd pc . My first pc is i7 7770k so i dont really care much about the performance of that quad in comparison for duo i was just curious tbh. But thx for ur answer appreciate it.
