I have a Optiplex 745(desktop/slim) that I want to upgrade to a Q6600. I know the mini tower 745 works perfect with the Q6600. I'm not quite sure if the PSU and heat sink is enough to handle the Q6600. It currently has the stock Pentium D heatsink and the orginal 275w heatsink. The 745 also contains a Sappire HD6570.

You are going to want a better cooler. How many MM of space is there between the CPU and the edge of the case inside?

So your PSU is 275W? I would probably want to get a bit better of a PSU, but I think that that might actually be okay! The 6570 uses about 60W and the Q6600 is a bit over 100W. The PSU might be under a little strain, but it should actually work! I would recommend upgrading to a better one though...

That PSU will power you through even a GPU upgrade.

Good luck!
