core 2 quad bottleneck

Your question depends on the resolution of your display.

If you're still toting the 1280x1024 then yes, that set up would be absolutely fine.
If you're toting 1920x1080 then it won't be great, but better than most.

And depends on what game as well, I mean like something like Left4dead you'll be fine. Something like the latest Bioshock title and you'll be struggling.

You always have the option of overclocking your CPU if you do find that it hits maximum usage during games (the best/easiest way to tell is to simply have your windows task manager open in the background during gameplay, and then Alt+tab out during playing and see if the CPU utilisation is hovering around 100%.

If it is hovering around 100% (and you're game enough) you can read this thread:

However, it's really not for everyone. If you're not comfortable overclocking and you find your utilization is hovering around 90-100% during gameplay, unfortunately due to age of your hardware you may have no option but to sink a few hundred (400-500$) into a new box.

If you don't mind forking out that much for a new box to get a better CPU then you will also note that most of your other applications will also run a lot faster (Windows etc).
