hello guys my processor is core 2 quad q6600 2.4ghz. so i play modern games on it. i can overclock this cpu to 2.8ghz easily without changing any voltage like vcore etc.so if i change this frequency to 2.8ghz , can i get some extra performance or is it an useless stuff? thank you!! p;s my mobo msi g41m p26

Solution
no that means you can go up a bit more but i wouldnt suggest going any further though .. oc'ing those cpu's are easier done onthe 1600mhz 775 motherboards

you will certainly see a bit of performance boost but not very much .. plus make sure you have the cooling for overclocking that cpu ..

is there a software to compare my performance boost ? like unigine valley (gpu)

so true that is ... try getting a fps counter and play some games before overclock and then do your overclock and then run the game again and see how the results compare with each other .. most likely that 400mhz wont give you more than 5 or 6 fps thats if you even get that much of an icrease with such a small overclock

check this out. i did this to my q6600 and saw a good increase with little effort. http://alumar.hubpages.com/hub/Get-more-from-your-Quad-Core-Q6600#slide2597180

this won't increase voltage or anything at all like that. simply ups the speed to 3.0 ghz with a couple pieces of tape. no settings to change or anything like that. took mea bout 10 minutes to do and had it up and running again. this is an old process that has been used since those cpu's came out.

as you said i got sme improvement. i decided to keep my pc 2.8ghz. what do you guys think? when i overclock my processor, ram freq also overclocked. is it safe? specially to my mobo and ram? thx again:) ps heat is fine too

ok seeing as though your cpu fsb is 1066 i take it your ram is also rrunning at that speed so overclocking your cpu will raise the ram speed so as long as your motherboard support going above 1066 then it will be safe .. what is the fsb of your motherboard ?

Update

i see your motherboard supports 1333 mhz so you will have no problem with overclocking as long as you keep the fsb under 1333mhz ...

you can check the specifications here
http://us.msi.com/product/mb/G41M-P26.html#hero-specification

how can i check my fsb? :S

bios says adjusted dram freq 1250mhz and your link sasy it can reach 1333mhz :) then this wont be a problem rite:? also i am using 2 ram cards..

i tried to 3ghz. then blue screen popped up. i think i need to change voltage. but my bios doesnt let me to do this. so there is no way to do that.anyway thank you very much bro, you saved my pc.. thx a lot.. cheers!!!
