[SOLVED] Core 2 quad q9400 SetFSB

Hello! My issue with q9400 is that when i overclock it using setFSb to 3032Ghz i get random stuttering in many games. Especially in battlefield 3. Gta V for example runs flawless. Also once i've managed to OC this to 3.2ghz yet another day it was freezing when i wanted to repeat that. What can be wrong ?

SetFSB changes RAM speed with FSB. It can also change SATA timings but that usually causes crashes almost immediately. Not being able to raise Voltage is another issue. Unfortunately it hasn't been supported for a couple years so help is scarce. Sometimes moving SATA to a PCIe slot can help, but only if that's the issue you're having. SetFSB is kind of a last resort as a primary overclocking tool. More of a final tweaking option. My advice would be to get one of the 3GHz CPUs to start with, or the even faster Xeons if your MB suppports them and tweak from there.

I had find out that my motherboard would not support any modded xeons.

If you increase the clock speed, you usually need to knock the ram speed back (as it increases with the OC), and increase the CPU core voltage.

Try another 0.1v of CPU core voltage.

Unfortunatly i dont have option to change core voltage. Tried with warious programs and its locked.

Then I would not bother to fiddle with it, leave it as it is, unless you're gonna risk it and do the Vcore mod (I've tried only the tape mode and it did not work).

Either try to get 775 board with good overclocking like P35, UD3R , X38 , P45.
With those you can overclock like hell, I've managed 450FSB X 9 = 3.6Ghz on Q6600 (You will have a LOT of trials and errors, especially on UD3R as it is doesnt like any of 65nm CPU's).

Also as RobCrezz said, its missing voltage.

Should be an option in the bios.

If the motherboard doesnt have the ability to alter the vcore then its not really suitable for overclocking.
