Core 2 quad q9650 with gtx 660ti

Guys tell me i want to buy this gpu,what are the disadvantages of bottlenecking?i think core 2 quad yorkfield should not bottleneck that much??

Heh, I had a Q9550 until recently, paired up with a GTX560Ti and it worked well, no bottlenecks besides on some CPU intensive games (RTSes mostly) so I guess it really depends on what games you intend to play

I went back through the archives and looked at some old benchmarks from when I had a 2.4GHz Core 2 Quad 6600 and a GTX 560. There was definitely some bottlenecking going on, at least with 3DMark Vantage. Overclocking the CPU to 3.0GHz helped some, but it wasn't stable, so I had to back off. You may have better luck.

EDIT: Found some more numbers. I also had a GTX 670 and the Q6600 for a short while. My graphics scores DOUBLED when I upgraded the CPU to an i5-3570k. So yeah, you'll see some bottlenecking.

Yeah, I might want to add that my Q9550 was overclocked @3.4GHz... Pardon my ignorance.

If you are upgrading from a slower GPU you will see boost in gaming performance for sure. In some games you may see some CPU bottleneck happening, still you will get overall much better gaming performance with an upgraded GPU than without. Since you have an 45nm yorkfield you can overclock the CPU to 3.4 or 3.6 Ghz that does make gaming even better.

It's not a disadvantage per se. It just means that your GPU is not performing as fast as it could because your CPU can't keep up. If you upgrade your GPU, you will see *some* improvement, but not as much as if you had a better CPU.

i mean,is there any issue with it,i am sure i will not get actual fps in games,but whatever,will it effect gpu bad?

Oh no, your GPU won't overheat or blow up if it's bottlenecked. It just won't perform as well is it could.

no................i dont think it'll bottleneck so you should be absolutely fine
and as for bottlenecking no it wont damage your cpu or gpu
but it will not let the gpu perform at its full capacity
other than that your cpu and other components will be fine
......................it's just a little hold up thats all
