Windows 7 Ultimate

My core 2 stays at 100 percent upon boot up and stays there no matter what I'm doing. The other cores range up and down from 2%-17%. CPU Usage ranges at 28-30% Usually stays at 4-6% until I open Firefox or run games. Which it typically normal.
I can't find what is using that core because every time I open task manager, core 2 jumps down to normal like the other cores (2-6%). As soon as I close task manager, it jumps back up to 100 and stays there. This just started recently like a couple of days ago.
Also I get this error message now every time I shut down the PC and it states:
(wmipvrse.exe-Application Error----This application was unable to start correctly (0x0000142). Click OK to close the application.) Is this linked to the core issue?
Does anyone know what is the issue here? Thanks.

Solution
It sounds like something is abusing the WMI service. I'd do a virus scan. If you have a favorite AV go for that one, I use Malwarebytes Free and it's fantastic.
You can also check and see what is set to start on device boot by running msconfig.exe and opening the startup tab.

Yes...that was the problem. You were correct. Ran Malwarebytes Free and aside from finding and cleaning, it also returned my core 2 back to normal. All cores running like they should be and use to. Thanks for the assist.
