Hi all,

So me and my buddy finished building his system today and i was checking it over and noticed that cores 3 and 6 where fluctuating like crazy from say 75 to 120 and the rest are at say 28 degrees.

I just put it off as software fault but is this possible ?

Many Thanks

To begin with this cpu has 4 cores. Seems like its the virtual threads which are pushing high temp. Also it is pretty much impossible to have more than 5 degrees difference between cores. Either all run at 80-85 degrees or all run at 60-65 degrees or something along those lines, you can't have 3 cores running on 40 degrees another running on 80, physically impossible. Maybe bad software, try Core Temp, great freeware.

yeah thats exactly what i was thinking

Make sure his bios is fully updated; you can try using coretemp or hwmonitor to check the temps as well, might just be that one software you're using.

but overall, remember, it might not be software, there are no promises the thermometer even works.

i'd probably run a prime95 burn see if your system is stable. assuming temps stay <90 on the other cores, and no crashing after 24 hours, i'd say there is nothing wrong except for the thermometer not working on those cores.

If the prime burn fails, or the system freezes up without any serious spikes in temps, then there may be a problem with the cpu itself.
