I know that the core I-5 currently preforms better but I wasn't sure if games in the future were going to require more than 4 cores? So I thought since the AMD FX 8350 has 8 cores it would last me longer in the future of gaming.
i5 4690k for sure - it has less cores but stronger cores - and performs better in gaming. It also has larger future upgrading options - on a LGA 1150 socket (same as broadwell, coming out next year). The FX 8350 runs on a AM3+ socket, which probably won't be used in the future again. Hope this helps

If you need a CPU that runs games and applications which need more than four cores / threads, then you could get an i7-4790k, which obliterates an FX-8350. Otherwise, the i5-4690k is a much better CPU for gaming than the FX-8350.
