core i3 2130 .... upgrade from G620

Hi guys
im looking at upgrading my socket 1155 platform which is currently using a Pentium G620 .. and ive managed to find a core i3 2130 for £60 which is pretty good
however can I expect a decent improvement in performance .... I will also be using the following :
h61ma-d2v (gigabyte ) motherboard
8gb xms3 (2 x 4gb) ddr3 ram
GTX550ti
500w ocz stealthstream psu
1tb sata HDD,250gb sata HDD ....
ive also considered the Athlon x4 750k and a fm2 motherboard,and obviously I would have to buy the motherboard which would add to my budget but this would still come to just £90 which isn't too bad for a quad core cpu and mobo !
so would you upgrade to the core i3 2130 ( without the need for any mobo upgrade ) or buy the 750k ( and fm2 mobo ) ...., basically which will give me the best improvement in performance !

You'll see a nice jump in performance going to the i3, improved frame rates across the board.

What's the cheapest 1155 i5 you can find? That's a big jump in performance. I bet you could find an i5 for the price of an Athlon and FM2 motherboard, that's what I'd do.

Basically your 1155 is a wonderful MB that can handle 3rd gen i3/i5/i7's and 32gigs of Ram, you have a lot of performance options for quite sometime...
i3 dual core +HT
i5 quad core
i7 quad core +HT
You already have a CPU fan, so look for a OEM CPU to install... an I7 3770 can be had on EBAY for <$250us you do not need any "k" version of the i5 or i7, with your MB, and can be found for less.

great answers guys ... ive seen a core i5 2400s for £80 ... and although that's better than the i3 2130 im not too sure about the "s" prefix ... ive checked its performance on passmark and it achieves a cpu score of 4880 ( compared to the i3 2130 which scores 4020 ) .....
in regards to s4in7,s answer .. how much of a jump in performance would I see with the i3 2130 .... for example running cod ghosts im getting around 28fps on high detail ( 1366x768 ) ... what kind of fps would I get at the same detail ?
I was also going to purchase a 120gb mushkin ssd along with the core i3 2130,so that should also improve performance ... what do you think

Hello... The "s" versions will work in your motherboard... it is a reduced speed version for "energy savings" vs the non "s" version.
When it comes down to Gaming performance you Video card and CPU will make the most difference in $$ spent... SSD will only relate to file load speed... your GPU and Gaming will benefit from a true Quad core CPU.

You should see at the minimum a healthy 10+fps improvement going to an i3 which will give you a healthy 35+fps if not more--that i3 is almost twice as fast as the Pentium according to Passmark's CPU mark. The i5 2400s is a little faster than the i3 at 4880, so you'd see more performance jumping from the Pentium to the i3 than you would from the i3 to the i5 2400s.

Buying an SSD is the single greatest thing I ever did performance-wise for my computer--windows boots in no time, programs open almost before you click them, it's great--highly recommend getting one!

The i5 3350p will give you an even bigger performance jump coming from the Pentium--I'd definitely get one if you can find one for a good price.
That way you have a true quad core and are future proofed for some time to come! i5's are beasts when it comes to gaming
