can I run i3 3220 3rd gen cpu with a generic 500w psu? I know that Intel i3 TDPs are really low, but still, will it cause any trouble or issues....? my other peripherals are GA-B75M-D3H rev 1.1 mobo, sapphire 6670 gddr5 gpu, 500GB WD 7200rpm HDD, a Samsung dvd rom, a Samsung dvd RW and that's about it .... so, is it okay to run this rig with a generic PSU? I am saving for a good psu but don't thing will be able to get one for the next 6 months at least..... :/

Whether it will run or not is not really the point. The issue is you could damage the components severely. Whether you risk it or not is up to you, that is if it even runs at al. If I was you, I would get a PSU from Antec, Corsair or Seasonic sooner rather than later.

With regards to generic PSUs, the general rule of thumb is not to exceed 2/3 of the rated wattage. So with a 500W, you do not want to be using more than 300W.
Your computer should pull less than 150W.. You should be fine.

Generally it's okay as long as you do not push it.

I have no intention to push it nor have any plans for OCing anything... so you're saying it will be okay to run it in this psu with my components?

YES!

Define generic? I wouldn't want to run my system on a generic PSU, but that is me.
Have you already bought the PSU?

Usually means it either came with the case, or it had no specific brand when bought,

ya that's right... its a non-brand psu.... I have been running it for 6-8 months without any problems in a core 2 duo E7500 machine with 1TB HDD and a 6670hd DDr5 gpu in a DG41Rq mobo.... but have bought a i3 3220 and a GA-B75m-d3v rev 1.1 mobo and so was wondering whether it would give any problems with the psu...

It's okay. But consider getting a better PSU in the near future.

hey thanks for the help man... any idea what would be a good enough psu at the cheapest rate? planning to upgrade to a 7750 gpu or 7790 in the near future... wonder with what kind of psu I can hope for those gpu to run properly...
