Core i3 4170 or FX6300 for a gaming build

Hi guys

I am looking at upgrading my current system's motherboad, ram & cpu. I am currently running a Core i3 2100, H61 board coupled with a Radeon R9 270X . An i5 is out of my budget and I've been considering the AMD FX6300 or an i3 4170. Which would be a better buy?

The Intel build will have a better upgrade route. Even though both the AM3+ and 1150 sockets are not going to see any new processors, the 1150 has a faster selection of upgrades available.
As far as comparing the FX-6300 with the i3-4170, I feel (from having run both) that the hyper-threaded Haswell i3 has a bit better gaming performance thanks to its faster IPC and better single core speed. But once you OC the FX-6300, it may start to exceed the i3. My opinion from personal testing only...
