hi i have a toshiba l730 t10n laptop which im guessing is an asian variant of the l730satellite series , as when i try to enter the details into toshiba uk it comes up blank, i digress, my issue is the laptop is fitted with an nvidia geforce 315m 1 gb dedicated gfx and also runs a 2nd gen core i3 2310m , what i would like to do is be able to switch between the 2 , but , the nvidia shows up in the device manager under display adapter but not the core i3 with hd 3000/2000 gfx. i have looked in the bios for a feature to just enable on board gfx but there is nothing and ideas , i have also scoured toshiba for related drivers but because this machine isnt from the uk so to speak no drivers are relative to it ..help please ;)

Even if you could ...why?
Is it because you have no drivers for the Hd gfx?
Does it affect anything in particular, any issues or something?
The spec sheet for the L730 says i5 but you've stated i3 perhaps it is something that was done for another country, as you've already suggested.
It's only Windows 7 x32 or x64, you can't install Windows 8 at all.

I can't find anything about i3 either, it might be a modified laptop or it could be a "BETA" version, one of the first to be trialed before Toshiba decided to up to the i5. Where did you get it?

Spec sheet -

i got it from ebay and your right to ask why, i suppose to take advantage of the gfx on chip as well as dedicated , it has win 7 pro 64 bit on it , i have tried numerous drivers for intel hd gfx from intel and other sources and all they tell me my system cannot run them , although when ive used pc wizard to check spec it says there is no on chip gfx now im wondering have toshiba by passed it ? or is it simply because i havent got the correct driver as it doesnt show in device manager like i have seen in some pics ,

I was going to say that an i3 woud be better suited to Vista but even Nvidia say the 315M chip is Windows 7 version so I'd better not say it!
http://www.geforce.com/hardware/notebook-gpus/geforce-315m

You shouldn't use the term "video card" for laptop, GPU is preferred.

it might have originally run vista I'm not sure ... but the term video card was pasted in from PC wizard sorry , my nvidia drivers are up to date and I've already tried them drivers as well as using the Intel driver update facility , its not like the Intel HD graphics is even showing up to update the driver, its like it needs a driver to be activated but it can't be found without the driver either that or would Toshiba have disabled the embedded chip graphics?

Usually it is better to use the drivers from Toshiba, they would have "Toshiba" identity logo inserted but there doesn't seem any other way arounbd it but to go directly to the source.

You might have to uninstall both those drivers, restart then see which one pops up first to be installed, it could be that you need the Intel driver installed prior to the other one, which is usually the case.

"video Card" is used much for anything whether it be a chip on the motherboard or an ipad or an actual video card. It is also common to see the word "GPU" referenced as the video card, I suppose it's easier to type than v-i-d-e-o c-a-r-d.

Memory Types - DDR3-1066/1333

As per your original details of "swtiching" between the two options, I don't think anyone can do that with any laptop, the nvdia chip compliments the intel chip.

Also, it's an i3 not i5 so it's use is as a basic laptop for "listening to music" and not really a gaming platform.

Run dxdiag in the Run Command box (Start Menu). That will tell you many things on the Geneeral tab then go to the Display tab and see what is shown then go to the last tab and at the bottom of the dialog is a Save button. Save All Information to a text file then post that text file here (delete or xxx any private information you don't want shown).

lots of laptops do it mate they use dedicated graphics for gaming and the embedded gfx for battery saving and general use , plenty of laptops use the i3 processor in semi gaming laptops , i have run dxdiag but only the nvidia gpu shows , no where on the laptop is there any indication of the 2nd gen core i3 2310m processor having any embedded gpu whats so ever , thats my problem i know what is inside the laptop i am just struggling to get the embedded side to reveal itself , im wondering if it is a combination of toshiba disabling it as there is no reference to graphics in bios either and when i run pc wizard or speccy they tell me that the processor contains no graphical chip embedded which is either because its disabled or there is no driver specific for it , as for the drivers i have tried lots of drivers from intel and from the toshiba website some do nothing other just say my system cant run the software, however i will post up dxdiag ,

Thanks for the dxdiag printout, I was hoping for a secret reveal but it didn't eventuate :(

So, umm, does the laptop do whatever you do on it?
Is there any issue that happens?
Are you just wanting to separate the two graphics just for the sake of whatever it "saves"?

i know what your saying but i would just like it to do it haha but i guess its just hard cheese , i even thought it might be because of the way the mobo is wired ie there is no link between the embedded gpu and the display , im not sure any more but its making my head hurt , but thanks for your attempts at helping me solve this ;)

It's making my head hurt, too.
I just don't understand why the i3 processor doesn't show up anywhere.
There is an option in Device Manager to "Show all hidden devices", maybe it is there but is in hiding?

I'm not savvy to whatever you are trying to do, I use my computers for actual progams and some games and haven't really delved into the tweaking of any of them.

Sometimes I just wonder whether PC and laptop users actually ever use their computers for they were intended or just like tweaking them.
I knew a guy who never actually booted to an OS, he just liked to overclock PC's to see how far they'd go before smoke bellowed out of it, that was 10 years ago so I suppose he is now working for some top PC company or has his own business (or is in hospital with 3rd degree burns!)

I've had a better insepect of the dxdiag -
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-2310M CPU @ 2.10GHz (4 CPUs), ~2.1GHz
There is no mention of Intel Graphics in use so the Nviida chip GPU is the only one present for this motherboard.
