Hello guys, hopefully by next weekend i will upgrade my CPU, from Sandy bridge to Haswell processor (i5 4670). I'm getting the MSI motherboard http://www.msi.com/product/mb/Z87-G43.html#/?div=Basic - Currently i have 3 RAM sticks, but i'm using 2 on my current mobo, i have two 4 GB sticks and one 2 GB stick, the MSI Z87-G43 mobo that i want to buy has four DIMM slots, i'm thinking of getting another RAM stick of 4 GB, if i put three 4 GB sticks and one 2 GB stick, will it be functional?. Will it create problems for the motherboard?.

So three 4 GB sticks and one 2 GB stick, makes a total of 14GB RAM. Is it going to be okay?. Thanks

A point made. But the chip will carry your system farther into the future. Go for it if you want it!

Best of luck

And the other is correct: Run just the two 4G sticks.

When you upgrade from Sandy Bridge to Haswell you will notice, erm,
ZERO difference in games. Unlesss you are a benchmark addict.
Particularly with a single graphics card. Huge waste of money.
Runing a value MSI motherboard and miss sized and un matched ram
sticks is a disaster waiting to happen. Any more than 8 gig is a waste in games anyway; better 2X4 of matched paired at factory ram than 4 odd sticks in a cheap board.

So the sandy bridge system is three years old.
What is the point of future proofing if you are going to replace it
before it is done? That system has 3 yrs in it yet.
Make your minds up. ! And you know the chip wont fit, so its a
new board and processor. £250/$475 worth. For nish difference.

Okay, what's your recommendation then?, i7 4770?. I can still use 2x4 with that board. You wouldn't recommend that board?, i've got another option of Gigabyte http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813128603 - What are your views on this?. I got my i5 - 2400 sandy bridge in 2011, so i guess, 3 years have passed well.

Yes you're right, the Haswell chip is faster and performs better, it's integrated memory controller is stronger than Sandy Bridge, i've had discussions with people about this and made up my mind lol. Thanks man.
