I have an older Core i7 3770 based computer that I use mainly as a file server. I haven’t checked its hardware info for a long time, but recently, when I looked at its CPU temperature, I was shocked to find it’d regularly go to >105C (>219F) even under fairly moderate loads.

I assume this definitely is not normal. I used an older Noctua CPU cooler. Can’t remember the model. I also switching another CPU cooler on there, as well as reapplying the thermal paste (Arctic Silver 5). But the problem has stubbornly remained.

Is this a case of mistaken temperatures? Or is there something seriously wrong with my CPU?
