Hi,
I'm looking at Core i7 4720/50HQ powered laptop. My work would be photoshop/lightroom, 360 video editing. I'm not into gaming but I'm learning to do some 3D in Unity & photogrammetry 3d modelling like agisoft. I'm on a budget hence looking at 2 models from Asus - ASUS A550JX-XX142D(4720HQ) or ASUS ROG GL552JX-DM291D(4750HQ) both come with 4GB DDR3 950M graphics. I plan to survive on this laptop atleast an year till I can upgrade to a desktop for the heavy lifting. Is this good enough to start for my application? Any heating issues? Battery life is not a concern. Will the ROG have any advantage(costs a bit more here) in terms of performance & upgrades? Thanks in advance!

Edit - another option within my budget is an i7 6700hq based HP laptop with 4gb 950m ddr3.

If you were to take the ASUS you would definitely be able to get at-least 16gb of RAM to put in that. An SSD would make everything that little bit faster but it may become full quite quickly. Compare to a HDD which would have more size.

Remember to select and answer 😉
Thanks Hamperking86. Both models differ by $200 here, I was wondering if I could max the RAM or go for an SSD with that $200. Why do you prefer the ROG? Anything performance related? (I liked the ROG in terms of design). Thanks again :)
