I'm using an i7-4790k, and a Hyper 212 Evo, and I noticed today, that with all background noise off, the cpu cooler is quite loud. I had the cpu cooler set to 100% (Around 1950RPM) So I went into the bios and configured the fan rpm, set it to smart mode (40c 25%, 45c 50%, 50c 75% and 55c 100% rpm) and when I booted up, it took about 2-3 minutes before the system just shut it self off, and rebooted. This has happened in the past when I first put the system together, and I spoke with a family member then who told me that the bios has a setting that will shut the system off once the cpu get's to a certain temperature. Well since I've owned the CPU (Around 2 months) The temperature has never exceeded 40c. 40c is EXTREMELY low to cause any damage to the cpu, and I don't know why the bios would set it that low. Does anyone know how to change this setting? Or do I have to keep Hyper 212 at 100% RPM at all times?
Motherboard: MSI Z97S SLI Krait Edition

question what RPM is the fan at below 40c? If the answer is zero that's probably the problem. The BIOS sees the fan isn't running at all and shuts it off ignoring that the fan will kick in at a higher temp.

Regardless, no the fan does not have to be at 100% all the time, unless for some reason that's what it takes to keep it below the thermal limit.

I have the same chip and I seem to be getting just under 40c for base load on my small heatsink and the fan turns at a stately 300RPM out of a max 1500RPM at that level.
