I am going to buy Intel I7 7700 in week's time but I have ran into some reports regarding the overheating of this CPU.So should I buy it or go for the Ryzen 1700.My preference is gaming at 1080p and GPU is GTX 1060.Any suggestions would be appreciated.Thankyou.

The I7 7700 is a great gaming CPU and a good choice if you have the budget. The Ryzen 5 1600 is the CPU I would buy right now over the i5 if you want to save money. Newer games are using more threads and the 1600 has 6 cores with 12 threads.
There is no such thing as "overkill for gaming". I bought the 6700K last January and still feel like I made the right choice. If you're worried about heat then just get a good cooler from Cryorig or Noctua.

It is pal. My point is why spend more money on the product that you don't necessarily need? Do you really believe that hyperthreading is gonna give you massively high FPS in games?

I'm using a core i7 4790K but I bought that chip because that PC is for some heavy rendering. My friend's PC which has an i5 4690K saw only 2-5 FPS dip even in CPU heavy games like Battlefield 4 and City Skyline. So the question here is does a 5 FPS difference really justify a 100$ premium?
