Core i7 920 memory speed

Hi my little brother has had an i7 920 Bloomfield for a long time, he has an x58 mobo and I noticed his ram was only running at 1066 .

Is there any way to get his memory (which is 1600mhz memory) to run at 1600mhz? Or is it stuck at 1066? I tried to go into the bios to up the frequency but then his computer wouldn't start.

I mean at least it's 12gb of DDR3 in triple channel, I just know that if we could bump it up a bit we'd see a nice performance boost

It depends on a few things, what the motherboard can handle mostly and what the cpu can as well.

If this is your motherboard you should be able to oc ram to 1600mhz i'm not entirely sure what 1600+ Means. but i'm gonna assume you might be able to push it higher?

Ya but look at the memory support for an intel i7 920

memory support listed by intel is just the minimum that absolutely every chip will support, normally they have no problem of going 1600 and above, they listed my i7 as supporting of 1066/1333 but i have my memory running at 1600, had it at 1866 before, never had any problems with it, make sure the timings are right
