Hey guys, I'm looking for an equivalent to the Core i7 920 or greater of Intel's Xeons.

I currently have an ok computer.

Core i7 920 Oc'd
3 SSD's
Nvidia 780 GTX
12GB of DDR3 1333
and an asus mobo.

I can run about 3 VM's for school on this single computer.
Right now I'm running a domain controller for AD😀S (a forest root), A storage server, and a mock up client that I'm using to test my AD😀S and OU's and what not. Additionally I have my own computer running on the domain as well.

Since my computer can handle all this, I was wondering if anyone had any cheap suggestions for a server setup to run Server2k12 so I don't have to dedicate my main computer to all of this.
I found some ebay servers that are like $200. I have NO idea what old hardware from 2011 - 2012 is good and whats not good.
I do know that my friend said the W3520 XEON was a good choice. However though, they are only $40.00 on ebay? I'm willing to spend around $400 on a cheap setup that can allow me to run a around 5 to 6 VM's.

Remember also, I'm putting almost no workload on these servers. I'm just trying to find the bare minimum hardware that will allow me to have a stable lab to work with.

Also, I did look at some cloud Vm's and stuff. My school does not offer vouchers for it, and its like $200 a month for a small virtual server.

If anyone has any input I'd greatly appreciate it!!!

Thanks guys.

Yeah I understand that. Right now, My 2k12 is in a VM. My main OS is 8.1

I just need a separate box so my VM's don't take up all my resources on my daily driver lol
I just figured A server OS would run smoother on a processor designed for it.

So, do you think another Core i7 Box with 16GB of ram and a couple HDD's would suffice for something like what I want?
