Is there a benchmark tool to find out how many floating point operations per second your processor does. I'm running a core i7 920 @3.4ghz. I read on wikipedia that a 965 gets something like 70 gflops, so I suppose it would be around that number. Just curious though, no major importance.

hi,

sure there is: www.maxxpi.net

flops: http://www.maxxpi.net/pages/result-browser/top10---flops.php

mips: http://www.maxxpi.net/pages/result-browser/top10---mips.php

Just a note, the worlds fastest supercomputer in 1993 was the 1024 core Thinking Machines CM-5/1024 installed at Los Alamos National Laboratorys. Its peak speed was 59.7 GFLOPS !!

MIPS is Million Instructions Per Pecond while FLOPS is FLoating-point Operations Per Second MFLOPS GFLOPS and PFLOPS are million, billion, and trillion FLOPS respectively

Many thanks for Qwikmark tool. I found it useful.
Now, I'm thinking to measure something opposite.
What about if I'd like to determine the system requirement(s) needed to run specific application. Something equivalent to Task Manager program but with the same fields like Qwikmark. GFLOPS for example.

Thanks

I tested many benchmark tools, and find that QwikMark is fast, lowprint and reliable. My Core2 Quad Q8400 at 2.66GHz gives 33 GFLOPS, a consistent reading compared to your 37 GFLOPS for similar processor with higher frecuency.
