total price with tool kit, wireless card, thermal compound, extra 120 mm case fan, and monitor after shipping is 2006 dollars.

i was originally going to buy two gtx 260s for 350, but in previous posts i was directed to buy a better video card to ensure better longevity with my system. the two gtx 260s will perform close to a gtx 295, from what i understand, and the 150 dollars i would save is enticing, however, 1 1/2 years from now i will need to upgrade, and im sure putting a second 295 in the system will be sufficient. however, im an amateur and this is my first build so i dont really know what im talking about to be honest.

the only questions/concerns i have are - will the gtx 295 fit in that case, i have read a review where somebody had three gtx 280s in there. also, should i save the 150 dollars, get the 2 260s, and buy a newer gtx 300 series card in about a year from now(i hear they are getting released by beggining of 2010).

To start, your PSU is in the wrong range. If you want to just sick with one GTX 295 then downgrade to a 750w PSU and save some money there --

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703009

If you're looking to keep the option for another 295 open, you're going to have to upgrade to a 1000w PSU --

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817139007&Tpk=corsair%201000w

Since you lose the combo either way, I would check this set of RAM out which sports faster timings and is a better set overall in my opinion --

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820227381

If you live near a microcenter, they might still be running a deal on the i7 920s

Everything should fit into that case as far as I know, but I don't see any dimensions on newegg, so I would suggest researching it further.

As far as equivalents for the 295, two 275s running in SLI is the closest you can get...for less money that a single 295:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130475

Get 2 GTX 275's in SLI. That PSU can handle it, and it's cheaper, and it performs better. Also get Windows 7. It's free, and pretty stable. Plus, when the retail version is released, you'll have no problem upgrading it. Everything else is fine, except that case is kinda cheap.
Go with either an Antec 1200, or an Antec 902 or a HAF 932/22. All are excellent cases, and worth the extra 60-100$. (save money w/ GPUs and OS you'll be set).

Congrats on your 499 post XD

ok, sorry, it is not for my wife, its for me, primarily for gaming. i meant to type that my wife will use it for whatever she needs to get done on the internet or whatever. but i am using a 1900 x 1200 monitor.

i dont feel comfortable using windows 7 rc as my primary operating system. i hear alot of good things about the rc, but im not sure if its a good idea. i will get windows 7 64 bit when it ofificially drops, but i dont even know how i would get the rc on the new build.

i decided to downgrade to two msi gtx 260s in sli which was my very first choice. 2 260s in sli, from what i understand, crush most games out there on 1900x1200 with high settings and aa and af on. correct me if im wrong. so i figure i will spend 350 on that setup, and maybe if i need to, i will buy a gtx 300 series somewhere down the road. i hope that my gtx 260s will last a long time. i made the downgrade because i fell in love with the antec 1200 and foolcooly got me set on purchasing a thousand watt psu. i figure the psu will eventually be needed a couple years from now if i plan on playing games with high end video cards.

i did use two gtx 275s with his build, but my price came out to 2060. so unless i can figure out a way to shave off some dough, the extra 130 dollars doesnt seem worth the perfomance gained form those two cards.

here is my new build with the suggestions made on this post and other posts. i have made numerous posts requesting help on my upcoming purchase.
im including everything im buying on this list. oh, and, do you think i should purchase a sound card or no?

Not only is 1000w like super major over kill, that Rosewill psu is good for a boat anchor or door stop, but you don't want it pushing your rig. Here's a few price savers for you without taking away from performance or quality parts that fit's your needs.

^ Never club high quality components with low quality PSU...
The Rosewill PSUs might be sufficient for a basic system but no one would recommned them for your config...
If you want a very good case, that wont cost that much, then the CM 690 is a very good choice...
It is as big as the Antec 900 and has very good airflow...So you can easily save about $75 there...
And as for the mobo, you can take a look at the Gigabyte UD4P or the P6T...
Both offer good features and are cheaper alternatives for the Deluxe...So you can stick with those mobos without loosing out on performance...and you can invest in the GTX 275...
But if you are not dead stuck on the GTX 275, you can get the HD 4890s, which offer similar performance and are about $40 less including rebates...
So here goes...

+1 for the CM 690

...and I know how you feel. xthekidx usually beats me by a minute if not seconds when I end up posting close to the same thing he post.

i understand the 1000 watt is overkill for the current build, but wouldn't it be the right thing to purchase if i know that somewhere along the line im going to upgrade my video cards to a more powerful setup? is it not a safe play to buy a 1000 wat now, so i dont have to purchase a 1000 watt in the future and rewire the entire system?

"that Rosewill psu is good for a boat anchor or door stop, but you don't want it pushing your rig"
alright, ill take your word for it.

ill post the specs for my updated build in about an hour from the time this post was made, if not, earlier.

what the heck is stepping?

stepping refers to the 'generation' of processors essentially. C0 is the first stepping for the i7 series...they just recently released the D0 stepping which is said to run cooler and be a better overclocker.

When I recommended the 1000w corsair PSU it was only for if you planned on getting two GTX 295s in quad SLI. If you're going with two 260s, then a 750w quality model should be plenty.

im just going to list the changes, if its not listed, its the same as above

i forgot to mention these totals exclude the keyboard and mouse i have listed above, if worse comes to worse, or i decide to choose the 275 setup, then i will by a 25 dollar keyboard mouse setup instead of paying 80 dollars for keyboard and mouse.

i really appreciate everyone leading me in the right direction. i know i will build a more efficient build and i have become moe knowledgeable because of it.

That gtx 275 in your post better be dipped in platinum for that kind of price. :ouch:

Give these ones down below a look. All are great cards, and they aren't a hose job. It takes like all of a few min. to dl a freebie proggy like "riva tuner" and o/c your vid card. In fact some of these down below are factory over clocked.
