core parking - what is it and is it neccessary?

i noticed in my resource monitor (windows 7 ultimate x64) that 3/6 cores of my AMD FX-6300 are 'parked'. Firstly, what does it do? I had a quick google and mainly learned its a power saving feature. I dont really care about saving energy, so would disabling this feature increase performance? If so, how is it done? I also found links to editing the registry, but i've never done it and dont want to screw up my gaming rig. Any help?

For AMD it is worth having it enabled, instead of the OS loading up one core with tasks, it distributes them across all cores, so system is more responsive. I have it enabled on my Phenom II x4 server and i7 laptop and you can see the difference.

do you mean core park enabled or disabled? because when it was enabled, the workload was spread over just 3 cores, meaning quite high activity but with 3 cores staying idle. surely de-activating core park will create a more even workload across all 6 cores?

Enabled/disabled, just a depends on how you look at the current state, either way just do it.
