Core Temp Differ by 18C

Hi all,

I got a Q6600 running at 1.25V, 3.0ghz (9x333).
Under full load, core 1/core 2 is at 73C, core 3/core 4 is at 55C.
Zalman 9700 cooler on a p35-DS3 board.
Room temperature is around 30C.

Why does the temp differ so much?
Do i need to reapply the heat sink etc? I got the computer shop guy to install the hardware... I dont like touching my own PC hardware in case I break something I cannot afford to replace.

What are you using to load the CPU? It may only be loading two cores.

Use Realtemp v2.90. Run the CPU Cooldown test and post your results. Close any programs which steal CPU cycles like browsers and active antivirus etc.

You need to run the cooldown test, which you get to by clicking the "Sensor Test" button. Close CPU-Z and Tak Manager and anything else that is not sitting idle except Prime95 and Real Temp.

The 55 C temps are reasonable. Is the HSF properly installed?

You may have to pull the motherboard to be sure.

Im ordering thermal compound, gotta reinstall HSF, dudes from computer shops cannot be trusted.

Computer restarts every time I do sensor test, probably due to heat... and what differences does background applications make, heat is heat. And yes the CPU is stable when primed for a night before.
