Hello i was recovering some files from a dying harddrive and it stopping at 93%. The speed of transfer is 111kb going up to 355kb then maxing up to 1.5mb but still its not showing any progress. My harddrive is not writing the data to my new external drive but why is that i can see the contents of the folder but can't copy them? I still don't wanna giveup and recover those remaining 79 gb of data. What can i do to have temporary access in the drive so i can recover the remaining files? Should i try freezer method? Btw i already plugged it on my pc because the usb adaptor won't recognize my drive, its only visible on pc

Thanks!

The drive's directory structure (what's used to display the folders and filenames) is stored in a completely different location than the file data itself. So the fact that you can see the contents of the folder means nothing. The file itself can still be corrupt.

Nothing you can do but just give it time to let the copy finish. When the drive encounters a read error, it tries reading again and again for about a minute before finally giving up. If you have a lot of files, this can take a long time. When one of my drives became corrupted, I left the copy running for over a week.

I've had mixed results with the freezer trick. Sometimes it helps, sometimes it makes no difference. The 1 week copy I mentioned happened in winter. So I just stuck the computer in one of the my extra rooms, opened the window, closed the door, and sealed the bottom of the door with a towel. The room cooled to outside temperature (below freezing), effectively doing the freezing trick on the drive.

Thanks for the reply, but why is the drive activity 100% even though its not showing any read and write? in task manager? Ill try using the cold trick it might help....i placed a fan near my drive and the speed went up to 1.5mb its something but I have not tried using an AC to cool the drive.
