Corrupt 5B Sorcery
~ deals damage equal to the number of Swamps you control to target creature or
player. You gain life equal to the damage dealt this way.
If Corrupt deals 8 damage, as it does in this case, you gain 8 life. Corrupt
does not say anything about "but not more than the toughness of that creature
or the life total of that player before Corrupt dealt damage", and the rules
don't say anything about being unable to deal more damage to a creature than
its toughness - it's perfectly okay to "over-squash" a creature or player.
So yes, if your Corrupt is dealing 8 damage, nothing makes it Magically deal
2 damage instead, and you gain 8 life.
