Corrupt SD-card

Hello,
i try try to format my 2G SD-card using my labtop but its not storing any photos.Then i try to reformat it using my digital sony camera it works fine. what i am wondering now is ..why is this happening?

Is it absolutely necessary to format the card?

And it may be doing that because the drivers on your laptop are outdated for that particular SD card. Try updating them.

If that doesn't work, go into Disk Management and try to format the card from there.

Thanks!..i needed to format it because i couldn’t save any text files or Photos. I thought i can just do that using my labtop ..but still the problem persist...Do you think linux (Ubuntu) have a problem when it comes to formating SD-card ? its upgraded already to 12.10!
