Corrupt user profile following Creators Update.

I have reasons to believe my user profile is corrupted following a manual upgrade to Windows 1703 Creators Update. Missing icons, programs not working and graphical artifacts.

My question is, is it possible to move my data from this user profile to a new one? The affected profile is a standard user account. I am the only user of my computer and I have been running from a standard user account only using the administrator account to install new programs and updates, so the installed programs are the same for both accounts only that my account stores any program specific files that I have been using.

With the data being on the same drive, is it possible to simply move the personal data to the new user profiles corresponding folders i.e. Documents, Downloads, Pictures, AppData etc.

All the fresh install taught you then was it wasn't the fix. Guess it answers a question.

That Corsair link thing is odd, its like an after effect, not sure what to blame there. might be desktop, or graphics. it lingers on the screen after it should be closed.

The part in that link about repairing the user profile in the registry, is that only applicable if the account is not able to be logged into? My value already appears to be 0 in the affected account...

Does that usually go pretty smoothly? Are there any issues you might encounter like linking of program settings etc? For example, there are a couple of programs that don't appear in the right click menu in a new user account. Is it safe to move the whole previous users AppData over?

So I'm still investigating these issues and it seems that many people are having issues with the Creators update. There is an issue where some icons are not displaying text underneath them, for me that is the GodMode icon on the desktop. I've tried creating the GodMode icon in a new clean user profile for which it still doesn't display the text, so the issues I'm experiencing including the icon images changing or missing in the start menu may not necessarily be a corrupt user profile but an issue with Win 10 1703 itself or particular users configurations...

they might have changed the coding for godmode enough to break icon.

windows 10 profiles in general have always been flaky, even before creators edition they could get corrupt and need you to make a new one and copy info from old user to new - I did it myself. I haven't noticed any increase in accounts breaking, it happened before, it will happen again.

Right now I'm not certain whether the issues I'm seeing are profile related or lie in the actual installation of the Creators Update. I manually installed the update from the ISO which appeared to go without a hitch initially...

I seem to be experiencing about the same issues as others are seeing, the most noted one being the users program folder icons in the start menu either randomly disappearing or using random pictures for the icons...

Another issue I have across all user profiles is this graphical artifact on a programs GUI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=da2QaqCjpWY

I've sort of ruled out graphics drivers by installing the latest Nvidia drivers today.

At this stage I'm guessing a clean installation of 1706 could set things straight, although I'm trying to gather as much information from other reported issues to see whether it's really necessary...

Do you mean the white lines just after it disappears? (in the video). wouldn't that be caused by Nvidia drivers - that I have heard are having issues with update - or the Corsair link software?

I hadn't noticed the start menu thing as I have never used those menus. I set it up so start menu doesn't show the app listing anymore - have to click a button to show them - which makes it take up less screen space, but I don't spend a great deal of time in there, I have the majority of the programs I run every day on the taskbar, start screen just used to turn PC off - ironic

Yeah, the flickering white lines as I click between opening and minimizing it... Nvidia Drivers, I'm not sure, I clean installed the latest version just yesterday but I really only noticed this after doing the Creators Update upgrade... What are the known issues with Creators Update and Nvidia?

I just reinstalled Corsair Link and that issue is still there...

The missing icons in the Start Menu occur over all user profiles, including ones made after the upgrade. I had an issue with Libre Office not starting from a standard user account, the process would open but the program wouldn't. I ran both sfc /scannow and dskchk which seems to have fixed that issue even though they didn't report any issues.

I think I'm going to clean install 1703 to hopefully set things straight... Have you clean installed or did the upgrade process work for you?

I haven't had any problems with the CU or Nvidia drivers but others have - https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1003027/w10-creator-update-and-nvidia-drivers-issues-/

My PC seems immune from CU problems or I don't use the parts that aren't working, one of the two.

But broken users and profiles, as I said before, are nothing new to Win 10 but I wish they would fix it. I never had to remake a user in the past unless its a fresh install.

try loading in safe mode and see if corsair link thing still does it - it might not work in safe mode though

The only real issues that I'm aware of are the start menu icons, the Corsair Link thing, and the issue with Libre Office. The missing icons seems to be common among other users but why only some users are affected who knows... It could be a profile issue but it could also be anything else... The best bet seems to be a clean install...

I've just finished clean installing Windows version 1703. The issue with GodMode missing text is still there and the flickering lines over Corsair Link also.

Perhaps there is an issue with Corsair Link and the new Windows, I've put the issue out there at Corsair forums.
