corrupted and unreadable on HDD - every time

I recently built my own desktop and put in a Seagate 1TB SATA HDD as additional storage space. Recently some files and directories on it suddenly became inaccessible - corrupt and unreadable, you know the error message. Since then, chkdsk runs on every startup, but fails to solve the problem.
Formatting the drive does solve it, but if I then again place - other - files on it, the same problem pops up, not right away, but after a few startups.
The drive is never completely inaccessible, only parts of it. Even if I do not use or open anything on it, the files somehow get corrupted.

Is this purely a hardware problem and do I need to replace the drive completely? Any help is greatly appreciated.

(Windows 8.1 on primary drive, the HDD is NTFS. If you need additional information, ask away).

How old is the drive? Is it still within Seagate warranty?

D/L and install Seagate Seatools for Windows and run all of the diagnostic tools on the drive. If it fails, make note of the failure code and, if within Seagate warranty, contact Seagate to RMA the drive.

Barely a few months old, so warranty should not be a problem. Will try your approach, thanks.
