corrupted disc recovery

I am trying to back-up my files and suddenly, my laptop freeze. I have no choice but to push the power button and restart my laptop. And of course, the files "copied" to the disc is gone. And the disc is now corrupted. Is there any way to recover the files I lost?

Your best bet is to use a file copy utility that boots from a CD so that Windows is unable to affect it, but you'll also need an external hard drive to save your files to.
