Corrupted Master File Table- please help!

Hello,
I have external HDD which shows up in My computer but asks me to format and does not show contents.

I know that MFT is corrupt.

Can MFT be repair without loosing data.

I would start downloading some data recovery software and running diagnostics on the drive.

I don't think it's a corrupted MFT, but a corrupted MBR. try this to recover the partition(s).

Go to your start menu and open the accessories folder and find the command prompt.
Open the command prompt and you will be in a DOS type environment.
Type "chksk (letter of drive):/f the f prompt will scan all the files systems and fix any errors automatically unless there is severe damage to the drive then you might need to recover the data and have it checked out at your local computer supplier for possible OEM replacement or if out of warranty the drive might be a paperweight. If there are severe issues on it, I wouldn't trust it for data.
