Corsair 550D vs 500R

I am about to build a new Work/Gaming PC and I'm having trouble deciding which case I would rather have, I like the look of both cases and one hand, I love the sound dampening of the 550D. but on the other hand, I love the airflow of the 500R.

Silverstone Strider Plus 600W ST60F-P
Corsair CMX8GX3M2B1600C9 8GB (2x4GB)
MSI Radeon HD7870 Hawk 2GB
Gigabyte GA-Z77X-D3H Motherboard
Intel Core i5 3570K


I don't want any recommendation on my Specs, I just want some thoughts on the cases and i do know that it come down to my final opinion but i really just some people that may either own it or have an opinion on Airflow vs Silence.

One issue around the case is that it will be in my room and my desk is close to my bed, which might be a problem.

Well the only prob is the front door. I dont like that so i would choose 500 R anyday.

Are you going for a significant overclock or add a second GPU? If not, then airflow in nearly irrelevant and you can go with the 550D.

I went 500R "just in case" but not much chance I'll ever need the thermal headroom. Still, the 500R is pretty quiet itself.

Two different things airflow and silence, If you like silence the 550D is much better but still has a good potential for airflow (Those 2 detachable covers are great) but still you're going to get higher temperatures in the 550D than the 500R.

Personally I like the 550D because of that side covers and the front door (Looks sleek) but the 500R will give you a massive airflow and you will have a fan controller. Those 2 in terms of quality are basically the same.

id get a fractal R4 over both. has decent airflow while being silent. the 550D front door chokes the fans while i find the 500R easy to get dusty since there is not that many fan filters

Well if those are the only choices i would pick the 500R
