Corsair 900D front panel

Hi,
I have the Corsair 900D case, on the front is a metal panel that you can remove revealing a dust cover and fans, just wondering are you meant to keep it on? Had it for year and always kept it off but only just occurred that it's pointless having the panel haha, would it impede airflow?

Pretty sure it's just there so you don't have to look at any fans you might have installed. Pretty sure it doesn't impede airflow.
