Interesting since HardOCP didn't like it so much. I do believe we were going by this review. It passes testing but doesn't get a recommendation at all.

" The Corsair HX1000i is the newest power supply from Corsair in the HX/HXi line we have seen and, while a ATX12V specification passing unit, it has its share of issues. Essentially, the ideas that this unit embodies today are all good, but the unit just lacks the execution to go with it. We can immediately see this when we look to the generally very good/excellent build quality that has some underlying questionable design choices tied to it, the good but ultimately back of the pack voltage regulation, the good but ultimately close to back of the pack DC output quality, the just average transient load tests results, the excellent efficiency even though it does miss its 80 Plus figures, and the miscues in the documentation/support. Literally, every one of the results today for the HX1000i can be summed up with "it is very good but................" and unfortunately that "but..............." is followed by the above issues as well as "it is not cleanly better than the older ~1000W HX products". Indeed, the test results put up by the HX1000W, save for the efficiency, are just as competitive against other units today as the brand new HX1000i and that HX1000W unit is more than 6 years old now."

I always wonder who to trust when you get such dissimilar reviews. You are correct in that 10s in performance and build quality usually equal tier 1. Functionality and value are much more subjective.

Between the HXi made by CWT and the AX based on the Seasonic Platinum series I personally would go with the AX. But I think your right in that we need to look at where the HXi is listed. Please if you see any glaring mistakes in the tier list point them out as that's the only way to be sure it's as good as it can possibly be.

That AX you linked to is the discontinued 850w 80 Plus Gold Seasonic X based model too and it was actually reviewed by Jonny before he went to work for Corsair. The newer AX 860 is based on the Seasonic Platinum series.

Hardwareheaven gives it a 10.

The only other AX still in production the 760w gets a Golden + Recommended from Hardwaresecrets.

There is this inconsistency in the tier list since if we look at the HXi1000 it is not great but the HXi750 is. Many units are broken up to size in the list and looks like the HXi series should be.
