Corsair CX experiances

i had some bad experience with multiple CX corsairs over the years (second revision was most troublesome)
coil whine , failing and noisy fans , but i never experienced any actual damage on the rest of the PC .

however newest revision is a lot better grey-black paint (not green-black)

Yes, I had an older (2012 green label) CX600 take out a motherboard.

Worked fine for several years.
Took it out and put it on a shelf for 6 months.
During restructuring of a couple of systems, I put it back in a different system.
Power up...Poof, no more motherboard.

I have a couple of CX450Ms in a few systems, perfectly reliable for me. However keep in mind that these PSUs are powering systems that have a total system draw of less than 50 Watts. So in that case, there is no way a CX PSU is gona blow up.

But if it were in a system with more than 250W max power draw, yeah it wouldn't be nearly as reliable.

I have had 2 CX430(green label) units fail.
No damage to other parts, and Corsair replaced them with no hassle.

If there is any component that you do not want to fail and cause damage to other parts, it is the psu.
Best to buy a superior quality unit. It will save you money and hassle in the long run.

I have the corsair cx 500 (Green label) powering an i5 4440, two dvd drive, two hard drives, and an rx 580. Maybe I should get a better psu sometimes soon......

well i wouldn´t feel confident having rx 580 hooked up to old CX 500
(it is a fairly power hungry graphics card and under heavy load it can consume 200-250w of power).
(especially these days because if by any chance your graphics card stops working
replacement would be very expensive and hard to get)

Their a ton of people using them with no problems until they get a few years on them.
I would make that my next upgrade then sell then one you have now.
