i had some issues with my ram. its corsair dominator platinum 3000mhz ddr4. It was running fine on x99, but when i switched to z170 the problems started. They are 2 sticks 4gb each 3000mhz. One of them doesnt boot until i select xmp profile before that. At default speed 2133 only of them can run ( the other gives error 53 ) So i use the working one to post, entering bios, enabling XMP 3000mhz, restart, shutdown, putting the 2nd stick ( without the timings ^^ ) and then i can use them both. Thats the only way. In cpuz i saw that the 2nd stick doesnt have any memory timings, just the xmp 3000. maybe thats why it cant work at stock speed or anything bellow 3000. Is the stick dead? Can i do something. I have some pics that i can upload to show u, but i dont know if thats not against the rules ( if so im sorry, you can delete the link with pic later guys) just want to explain it better this way, coz my english is not good.

Thanks

i can try that, but im sure its not from the memory slots, coz i tested all combinations with the 2 sticks at once ( no XMP ) and no posting. When i select xmp with the " timing" stick and the put the other, everything is fine. odd....

its 6700k, i suppose it support it. btw switched to slots 1 and 3, same issue. the 2nd ram still dont have timings and cant boot by itself alone. Tested it memtest 3-4hours and no errors. I dont know whats causing the problem

mmm i think they all support 2133 and up with xmp. Its new build, my old one was gb z170x gaming 7 and 6600k, gave it nephews and took these before 10 days maybe. so yea they are brand new. Also have 1 spare A data xpg dazzle 8gb stick 2800mhz which is working just fine with the system. The problem are the corsairs. I dont understand much , thats why im asking you guys, but if the "faulty" stick doesnt have the default stock 2133 timings in my opinion it will not run at all, maybe thats why it cant even post until its selected xmp to 3000mhz and it boots. I dont have the waranty or any documents left from the corsair kit, they were from another platform (x99), so i cant even rma it. So do i have just to buy new ram and "throw" this away or there is somethin i can do about it?

I found it strange also that the Intel site only says DDR4-1866/2133. You are probably right about it supporting higher with XMP. Perhaps someone else here can confirm this.

Perhaps you can change the title of this thread to something like "Using 3000 mhz DDR4 with i7 6700k". (assuming there is a way to change the title). That may get someone else with more knowledge to respond.

yea, thanks mate, i`ll changing the title if its possible, if not i`ll make another thread tommorow coz its almost 1 am here. thanks a lot for your time buddy :) hope i can find solution to this. gn.

Sorry for the late answer, but yes, it is the latest version - p7.00. When i bought the MB it was 1.0
I saw there are updated ram compatibility in the versions from 1 to 2.70, but i downloaded only the 7.0 version. Is the latest version have all other updates included or i have to updated them one by one ?

yea....i tried all versions of the bioses, same...so its not from the bios maybe. The strange thing is one the sticks have timings , the other one not, just the xmp which cannot be started automatic, so to get them work i use one of them to start the system, entering bios, enabling xmp and then adding the second. But that sucks, i dont want to make everything manual, thats MB and bios work, not mine. Anyway the problem still not solved. Maybe i have to make another thread with difrent name and you mate delete this one. And a BIG thanks for your time and help :)

i did it, but still get error code 53. The only way to run with the 2 sticks now is only by using the "working" one to enter the bios and select xmp profile to 3000, also set manual freq. to 3000mhz too and then i can use the second one ( that without the timings ) Never seen before ram without timings, i cant see them in the bios, aida, cpuz etc., only the first one have them all from 2133 to 3000. Tried to contact corsair, but they want to send them invoice. that i dont keep anymore, so they actually said fvck off....
this is how it looks like in cpuz

I don't think the OP can RMA the ram, because he doesn't have the invoice for the purchase.

I thing there are only 2 choices left. Buy a new set of ram and get rid of the defective ram. Continue the workaround you have been doing, but rather than turn the computer off when you are done using it for the day, put it in sleep or hibernate mode, so you don't have to enter the BIOS and set up XMP mode every time you boot up.

I personally, almost never turn my main computer off. I have it set to go into sleep mode after 30 minutes of inactivity. In the morning, I hit any key on the keyboard and in a matter of 5-10 seconds, it is right where I left off the previous day.

Yea, i can`t RMA it, i`ll keep them for now untill i can buy a new set of ram. I turned off the pc and started it - no problems, it boots normally, the 2nd sticks is still fvcked up, but it works, the strange thing is the ram doesnt give any errros in memtest. Anyway thanks a lot guys. If i find a solutions ( i dont think there is... ) but if i find something i`ll post it so if anyone else have similar problems can solve it. Thanks again :)

Hi Guys ,

Its seems like thas is the problem specially with that kind of ram. I got Asrock x99 OC Formula and 4x8GB Dominator 3000mhz CL15 , and on standard 2133mhz everythings seems to run, but once i anable xmp , i boot came to the windows and after a minute my pc just freeze, its not works, i tried put more voltage on ram as well doesn't helps. I dont think so i got damaged ram as all 4 slots is accepted.
I search on the asrock website and found under compatible DDR RAM there is plenty of RAMs but no Corsair 3000mhz CL15 ......
Does it mean xmp will nit work with my memory. Strange cos on the menual its says support ul to 3400+ ( OC )
