Question Corsair GS700

So I've got a Corsair GS700 that I have been using for a long while. It has treated me extremely well. I am starting to upgrade my set-up more and more as of late. Is the GS700 adequate for what I run?

How old is it? If you bought it in 2012 you got your moneys worth. It is well past it's warranty if so. Why take a chance on the most important part of your build?

I was actually given this PSU along with a couple different items to help me start getting into building my own rig. So I can't honestly say when it was purchased. But I do get your point. Why put rig to my rig with an older PSU when I can purchase a newer one and they aren't that expensive.

The next question would be this. What is the best way to determine the wattage output needed to run the build you have? I want to stick with a Corsair PSU, and there is quite a selection to choose from. I know I'm going to go with a Gold or higher but I'm not sure which model or wattage to go with. I would love to continue with the GS line but it does not look like Corsair manufactures that model anymore. What is a good replacement line for my set-up and like I asked, which is really most important to me, how is one to determine the model and wattage needed on the build they have. (I like knowing the reason so i learn something rather than just asking a question and someone answering it for me.)

So ok, the rule I use is 60-80 percent above the required wattage for your gpu. So say your gpu calls for 400 watt psu. 60 percent of 400 is 240. So your toatal wattage would be 640. That would be your minimum, if you went with 80 percent it would be 320 watts plus 400 watts would be 720. That formula would cover your gpu and everything else. So sorry I meant 40-60 percent of gpu wattage. So the Gtx 1080 calls for 500w gpu, 40 percent of 500 is 200. So total would be 700 watts. So you would be fine with a 650-700 watts psu.

I am partial to Evga psu's. Primarily the Super Nova line G2 or G3. It has a 7 year warranty and are gold standard.

I find if you get high enough quality, a ton of extra wattage isnt needed.
For a 1080 id reccomend a 600w at minimum. Corsairs RMx lineup is a very good suggestion, although their TXX line is alao 80+ gold and pretty cheap.
I also like seasonics focus plus gold 650w. It is quiet, fully modular, efficient and reliable. It has a 10 year warranty.
