Hello!

First time building a PC the whole way through here.

My parts:

CPU: Intel I7 6700K
Mobo: Asus Maximus 8 Formula
PSU: Evga 1000G
RAM: Corsair DDR4 Vengeance LPX (2x 4GB)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H45 Who has installed this and could give me some help?!
Case: Corsair 750D Obsidian, Airflow Ed.
GPU: Haven't got one yet.

So I wanted to know how to correctly install it.

I couldn't find much about H45 installation on the internet so am having trouble...

Thanks in advance for your help!

Edit: so I tried screwing in the mounting bracket without the cooler just to get a feel for the positoning and that seems ok.

I always thought less was more in terms of thermal paste but there is so much preapplied on the water cooler (4cm-3.5cm of TP) which means it will cover the frame around the cpu as well and then some. I am really hesitant to just stick it on as it would be a huge pain to clean up later...

Edit 2: So I cleaned off the pre-applied thermal paste and put some new paste on the cpu itself.

So new problem... I have put on the back plate but I can't seem to attach the mounting plate onto the standoffs with the thumb screws. The thumb screws have springs on them which means I can't put them through the holes in the mounting plate to connect with the standoffs
Am I suppose to take the springs off the thumbscrews? Though I suspect they need to be on there...

No, you didn't buy the wrong cooler; it is compatible. If you were to clean off the thermal paste, make sure you are cleaning it off properly or it will decrease performance. Use isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab to wipe away any residues of thermal paste after cleaning the majority off.
